Miss Annette Reid is interested in common gynaecological problems including pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, fibroids, early pregnancy problems, prolapses and benign cervical and vulva problems such as lumps and bumps, itching and discharge conditions.
She has expertise in Advanced Laparoscopic surgery to treat all types of ovarian cysts, to investigate and treat pelvic pain conditions, endometriosis, adhesions and tubal conditions. She is also skilled in undertaking total laparoscopic hysterectomies for various indications and has an excellent safety track record.
She also specialises in hysteroscopic procedures for polyps, fibroids and heavy menstrual bleeding. She regularly keeps updated by attending national and international conferences. Miss Reid is a registered coloscopist with the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) and is currently Clinical Lead for Benign Vulva conditions at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
She always takes time to listen to, and work with, patients to deal with their concerns which may often be perceived to be embarrassing or sensitive. She is known to engage well with her patients to allay any anxiety.
Miss Reid qualified with a Distinction from King's College London GKT School of Medical Education, University of London in 2002. Prior to her medical degree, she obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Sciences.
Her undergraduate training was followed by three years of surgical training. She successfully passed the MRCS (1&2) postgraduate surgical exams, which complemented her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Miss Reid achieved a Postgraduate Diploma with Merit from the University of Surrey in Advanced Gynaecological Endoscopy in 2015 and also acquired post-graduate qualifications in early pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound following honorary training at King’s College Hospital, London.
She obtained Advanced training skills modules in Open and Laparoscopic surgery, Acute gynaecology and early pregnancy and advanced labour ward practice. She held an honorary position at St. John’s Dermatology Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital London to enhance her understanding of Benign Vulva conditions.
During her training, Miss Reid undertook research in Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries with leading Uro-gynaecologists at Croydon University Hospital. The extensive research culminated in the publication of a long-term outcomes study which has been used during counselling of women who have suffered the same injuries during labour.

Miss Reid has weekly dedicated gynaecology clinics and sees patients with period problems, pelvic pain caused by various conditions, abnormal bleeding, benign cervical and vulva conditions and prolapses.
She specialises in undertaking 2D/3D ultrasound scans, and minimally invasive surgical treatment of pelvic masses at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, where she was appointed as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2014.
She is an established laparoscopic surgeon in the treatment of pelvic pain, tubal pathology, ovarian cysts including endometriosis, hysterectomies, and hysteroscopic management of polyps and fibroids.
Miss Reid is responsible for managing patients referred via the two-week rule urgent pathway, especially in relation to pelvic masses where she consults and scans patients to differentiate between benign and malignant ovarian cysts.
She undertakes weekly colposcopy and vulvoscopy (a simple procedure used to look at the cervix or vulva) clinics to investigate and treat abnormal smear tests and vulva lesions including those referred urgently. She works closely with the Gynae-oncology team with regular attendance at the multidisciplinary meetings.
Miss Reid is highly trained and experienced in ultrasound investigation and management of early pregnancy problems such as vaginal bleeding and pain. She has a regular early pregnancy scanning session at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and has undertaken weekly scans for many years. She also manages other problems occurring in early pregnancy.
